How To & Tips
Staining with a Rag
- When using a rag to wipe stain it is always best to
fold the outside edges into the center forming a soft pad. Try not to
form the pad tightly.
- Before removing the stain with a new rag be sure to
apply some stain to the rag so that all the stain will not be removed
with initial wipes.
- For extensive staining on large pieces continue to
use the same rag turning often to reuse areas that are driest.
- As the rag becomes more saturated with stain, apply
less stain to wood surface using excess stain in the rag.
- Keep a china bristle brush handy to brush out built
up stain in corners and carvings. Wipe brush on your rag as you go.
- If an area you stained turns out lighter than other
areas, do not add more color now. Seal first then re-glaze with your
wet rag.
- Always move rag left to right in a straight line.
